About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Machine Operator to join our production team. You will operate stone processing machinery to cut, shape, drill and polish natural, engineered and porcelain/ultra-compact stone.

Working from shop drawings and work orders, you will ensure work is completed safely, accurately and efficiently while maintaining quality and production requirements.

  • Has strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
  • Pays close attention to detail, shop drawings, measurements, and machinery tolerances
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with shop foremen, stonemasons, and factory staff
  • Remains reliable, calm, and solutions-focused under tight production schedules
  • Takes genuine ownership of machinery care, material wastage, and factory safety
  • Understands the importance of safety, cleanliness and presentation

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and handle stone materials safely
  • Comfortable working on construction sites
  • Able to always wear required PPE

What you will do

  • Operates CNC machines, bridge saws, edge polishers, waterjet and other processing equipment 
  • Set up and operate machinery according to drawings, specifications and production requirements
  • Safely load, position and secure stone for processing
  • Perform cutting, drilling, profiling, polishing and other machine processes
  • Monitor machine operation and make basic adjustments where required
  • Inspect finished pieces for quality, accuracy and defects
  • Follow shop drawings, work orders and production instructions
  • Meet production targets and deadlines while maintaining quality
  • Minimise material wastage through efficient machine operation
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of machinery
  • Report machine faults, damaged materials and production issues promptly
  • Work collaboratively with stonemasons, apprentices and other production staff
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area

What we need

  • Proven experience in in machine operations, manufacturing or a similar environment 
  • Experience in stone processing or fabrication is preferred
  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings and work orders
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet production deadlines
  • Strong commitment to safety and site requirements
  • Physically capable of safely handling stone and working around machinery
  • White Card holder

Nice to have

  • Experience operating CNC, bridge saw, waterjet or polishing machinery
  • Experience working with natural stone, engineered stone and porcelain/ultra-compact materials
  • CNC CAD/CAM experience
  • Relevant CNC, engineering, manufacturing or machine-operation qualification
  • Forklift, crane or suction equipment experience/certification
  • Experience providing guidance or support to apprentices and labourers
